From meat and potatoes to the mediterranean diet: it's the telomeres I tell ya the telomeres.

A Link Between A Mediterranean Diet And A Long Life

http://www.forbes.com/sites/alicegwalton/2014/12/03/a-link-between-a-mediterranean-diet-and-a-long-life/

The Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, olive oil, fish, whole grains, and usually includes a little wine with dinner; it doesn’t make much room for red meat, poultry, dairy, and sweets, though a little every now and then is probably ok.

DC:

That would be OK except for the fact that I am now actually de Otay!

It has never been proved, but it was strongly implied that Peter Keegan was the only marijuana user at our high school during the high school years. I think there were some that tried it thereafter. None have ever admitted to inhaling however.

Terry:

It seems to me that I used to (to my everlasting detriment?) hang out in both of those two "crews".

After one of those National City/CV dance encounters, quite a large number of CV boys piled into cars and headed to NC and ended up at Keith's Drive-In. An NC fellow pulled out a pistol (no shots fired, but I actually saw the gun), which sent everybody scattering. The "rumblers" thought better of it and headed back to CV on National Avenue, where at least several vehicles were stopped by NC police and told to go on home. Later that night the older brothers of some of the initial group returned to NC and left some very bloody NC boys not too far from the police station.

There was another infamous "gun" incident at the Oscar's Drive-In at Broadway and "L" also.

Wouldn't you think with two big companies like Lockheed and PSA and two presidents and a vice president they could have afforded a sound track for this video? At least a chaperone was provided. Isn't that VP pretty, I'd like to shake her hand.

He didn't work for PSA, but I actually did shake his hand recently. Is that Poway, CO, Dean?

I just received a DVD from Reunion Photographers. As nealy as I can tell there are 63 photos on it. Does this sync up with what other folks are seeing?

Wasn't there to be a slide show or video presentation at the reunion. I don't recall seeing anything.

Is this due to our seating positions at the event? If this is the reason, is the presentation available anywhere now?

Here's a photo (note handshake): Fernandez, ?, Underwood, Barrett, Barrett (Rhonda)

@Bruce-You are correct, there was a slide show at the dinner. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to view it due to the seating configuration. Mike Cruz, CPH, put the show together, and it includes all three schools. Mike included all of the photos that appear on the "photo memories" page from this forum  and others that were sent to him directly. In addition, many of the slide show photos (HHS) appear in the HHS 50th Reunion Memory book available from Shutterfly. I have a copy of the slide show presentation, but have no clue as to how to make copies of it.

Has anyone rec'd their copy of the photographer's memory book? I have rec'd the DVD, but not the memory book.  I'm not too impressed with their customer service.

Treasa, I have received the DVD, the large group photo but not the memory book and I have ordered all three items. I placed my order through their website but the process either was lost, or I did the process to order incorrectly or their online ordering is problematic. It took a phone call and my order was nowhere to be found at the place of business. So a second order was placed by phone. If I do receive the memory book I'll post the good news.

Treasa, I haven't yet received the book.  I did get the class photo & DVD.  Enjoyed looking at the pictures but wished I knew WHO I was looking at.  Too many changes over the years.frown I wonder if I should do like Karen and give the company a call.  A bit annoying!  Hopefully they will get with it and get them out before Christmas!

I have been informed by my good friend (and candidate for the Mistress of all CV Trivia, whose name cannot be revealed because the contest is still open ) that the homecoming queens wore green dresses for all three years 1962-1964. My informant is not Michele, she was in Japan in 1962.

Who knows about the prior years? Was this a tradition or just a chance happening?

I do not remember this girl, she must have been  after 1964.

Only one of us could dress up for the prom, so Rowdy got the fancy stuff.

I have one of those mashers on my shelf of old stuff. I probably have one of everything! My house has been in my family since 1912 and everything was storedere... yikesI have a lot of junk....

Bruce Wilson

Well Paula if it's been since 1912, then I'm assuming it's not the house over by the junior high school where I can recall attending a party or two in either elementary or junior high. Probably not the other party place on "G" Street either, that one appears to have been torn down.

I wonder what ever happened to Sue Zimdars.

Stuff has a way of accumulating doesn't it?

Three more years! Three more years!

We're going to have to listen to that insufferable Wilson dude until we're in our seventies. Can't the committee ask him to resign?

On another note... does anyone else remember the cafeteria grub as fondly as I? Their meatloaf was soooo much better than my Mom's and I still make the apple crisp recipe that the lunch lady was kind enough to share.

Barbara:

I never ate in the cafeteria, but if you'll pass along that recipe we'll give it a try. I think apple crisp can be accomodated on the "modified" Med diet.wink

On even another note and heading back into the archives, this time to 1959. Who can id these two CPJHS Basketball players.

For Michele Walter, what would us old codgers out here in the reunion world do without Bruce and George's brain teaser/puzzles/historical information? We might have to sign up for Lumosity or do our own research. Still trying to unravel some of Bruce's posts, but the brain exercise is keeping the blood flowing to parts that might not be getting enough! Maybe if more people post information, Bruce wouldn't have to be burdened with the responsibility of keeping things moving. I think it's safe to say the message forum needs Bruce and George.

Karen: I'm assuming that you already unraveled that Michele didn't actually make that post.

We had a visit with George and his wife Pam yesterday. Both extremely nice, accomplished and friendly people, but George confided that he wasn't too sure of some of my posting either (composting you say?).

Anyway back to the archives (George provided me with a whole new source yesterday).

Let's take Earl and Pearl Tachiki for starters. They look to be about two years older than us (ninth grade at CPJHS, 1959). Are they in your family?

And BTW Shayne I have misplaced my abacus, but you've got to be up in the neighborhood of +5 or 6.

Even with only 15 msec of fame allotted out to folks, every now and then a good parting shot is in order. So in case you never received or have misplaced your copy of The Yorkshire Terrier magazine from April/2002,  here's mine for the day. I'm not the cop, but rather the two-headed computer programmer.

MANY thanks to those of you who provided information on CV's historic homes. I especially enjoyed seeing Augusta Starkey's house again; I remember it so clearly, as well as the woman herself. Mrs. Starkey was the choir director at our church (Community Congregational on F, just east of Third). My dad and I were in the choir. She also had a big old house at [on] one of our local beaches - Del Mar, I think - and she had choir parties there during the summer.  ~  Architecture has always fascinated me, and my favorite style is Craftsman. I go every year (mid-October) to the historic home tour in Pasadena, with different homes featured each year, all from the Craftsman period. Amazing....and gorgeous.

Hmmm, a psuedonym post...opens a whole new view of what one reads on the reunion forum, a new challenge for the aging codgers out here.

The guy with the butch haircut looks like Biletnikoff. After Hilltop (class of '62), he had a great career at Montana I believe. The man could shoot!

Here's a little experiment I did. Made a video of a page, transferred it to the computer, paused it, and  did a print screen. Seems to give a clearer image than a straight photo. Anyway here's the whole CPJHS 1959 team.

That indeed is Dennis, Terry and the guy right below him is, lo and behold, Mr. Leon Stallings. On Dennis' right is Wheeler Hubbard. Dennis must have undergone a growth spurt later and I did not remember Leon playing on teams. Will send up some more photos with the roster later. I id'd 8 players correctly without doing any lookups and of  course Coach Wappes.

Shooting-wise, Dennis surely could, for hours at a time as I recall. He talked me into feeding him the ball for one of his practice sessions once (in the old days we could only afford one ball and we had to check that one out) and I thought he was never gong to quit.

I did not own a leather ball until graduate school. I would bet that even Dennis didn't have one.

I did not know Karen Tachiki in high school, I can't recall even talking with her. Our paths never crossed at Berkeley. Over the course of this last year I have come to know her as a loyal, bright, sincere, straightforward and honest young woman.

When I was an undergraduate I was enrolled in a senior honors research seminar with a famous psychologist named David Krech (short form). I don't remember much else of what we did, but I do recall Dr. Krech saying that if you continue down this (research) path you are going to end up reading a lot of dull journal articles, books and research papers, so spice it up some, throw in whatever humour pops into your head, and don't take yourself too seriously.

I have tried to follow his advice and luckily got out of the dull research world and into the equally dull, if not duller, world of computers.

I don't think Karen got a chance to work with Dr. Krech, but I'm working with her on the leg-pulling angle at his behest. Here he  is now, just about exactly as I remember him (which leads to another interesting topic we may explore here on the old message forum).

Hey Yo Andie:

Michele and I visited the Marston house in Balboa Park, but we just missed a tour which started about 5 minutes before so it's now on our to do list. We also just missed Annie Marston who had been there shortly before.

It a great house and the personal tie-in makes it even more interesting. I moved to CV in order to tour one down there on Second Avenue.

There are some nice ones up in the La Canada - La Crescenta area also. Here's a reconstruction of a French barn that's in Deukmajian Park. It's fenced and I don't know whether they have tours of the inside. Note small vineyard.
