Back to the May/1964 Lance "Ideals" (wasn't it Idylls?)
Were there any two categorry awardees? You betcha Kimosabe.
Hi Jackie.
And Dean, do not feel bad that there was not a Nature Boy category, we all know that Dave, you and I would have been competing like the Three Musketeers we weren't.
Dancing_wise, these guys wren't in the Class'O'64, they're good though (is Bruce Utah Philllips listening?). Probably still not as good as The Big O.
For some wierd reason, I know longer receive the e-mail forum. I was able to get into the late December edition by searching for it; the first one I've seen since mid-November. I regret that none of our class engineers have been able to help me get back on the list. Maybe someone is tweaking my nose. Anyway, Kay Ochi, you pursued my late pastings to great effect even if I was laying in bed recovering from a Friday night football injury. I've always appreciated your diligence, but "Terrio" the organ grinder man? Too close for comfort as it turned out. And, Bruce I plan to fact-check your book as soon as I receive it. I'll try to break into the system from time-to-time to see how I am being protrayed, but I will likely be late in my response. I did enjoy journalism; and learned more about writing by doing than I did in any English class. Kay was a big part of that as she was so effective in leading our motley crew (or at least I was motley; no offense to the other talent assembled in that room).
I could see Mr. Tomlinson, maybe Mr. Rice handling the matter this way. Ms. Hassler would have been a bit more animated, but I think she would have been laughing.
BTW, Sean Penn showed up in my condo building once to date the inimitable Karen Kopins (I think just once). If there had been a Nature Boy/Nature Girl back in 1964, she would have gottten at least an honorable mention. She had a nice Corvette too and smiled more than these roughnecks.
Here are the names of the Idle Lancers Appointees. As I noted prior, some folks appear in more than one category.
Have fun.

I'm still going with Dean, Bruce or Dave (even though he wasn't in the class) for Nature Boy and of course , Karen K. notwithdtanding, Ms. Corinne McCall for Nature Girl.
Other years, YMMV. For example, Nature Boy/Nature Girl reputedly became a fixture around 1967. For Dean, Corinne and I it was not a case of born too late, but rather too early.
Furthermore, I always thought that Ms. Prickett deserved some kind of award, I'm just not sure what it should have been called.
I'm not known as the Master of all CV Trivia for nothing. Way back in this exercise there was a guy who had a really nice Woody. All I could recall was that he was called "Toad". Well, I'm here to to ya that he is actually Gordon Mills.
A couple more photos. I can't remember if they're here or not and like I said the search function leaves something(s)0 to be desired.
Can anybody ID the five on top of Wood's? Clue: it is not The Dave Clark Five.
A few weeks ago I went to Warren Miller Productions recent ski film "Line of Descent" at a packed and raucous showing at the Wheeler Opera House here in Aspen. It was one thrilling frame after another. We are hosting the X Games this weekend a few miles from my home and many of our locals are or have been in the events.Won the raffle for a Marmot jacket at the film too!
Many of us went up to the Observatory at Palomar Mountain. It was a side trip of my trip to Patrol Boy camp.
This looks familiar.
Here's some early footage taken before I met Officer Bob and in fact likely before I was even born. I discovered a while back that Dr. McCausland was assisting my mom. Anybody body know who their baby doctors were?
The last time I was up there, which was a long time ago, but certainly more recent than Patrol Boy camp, this was still there. The Weir (no relation to John & Kevin).
Sam is a sophomore at USC who grew up in Escondido, California, about an hour or so south of Los Angeles. His father was a park ranger at the nearby Palomar State park, which often catered to middle-school field trips from schools in the surrounding area. Sam shared with me one of the legends of the mountain that he learned from his father.
Informant:
“So… the legend of the weir… The word “weir” actually means a low damn that helps to regulate the water flow of a river. At Palomar Mountain there is an actual “weir,” which is like this small mortar and stone type-looking tower on one of the trails that loops around the park- right on the edge of a creek. Legend has it, the Weir – the man this time – is occasionally sighted there for brief moments before taking off. He’s a recluse, a man of the mountain itself, and almost looks a part of the elements – dark mud-caked skin, small plants and flora growing off the top of his head, etc. For the most part he remains a rumor more than anything, but every once in awhile a story will come out in which the Weir has been said to have saved someone – rescuing a boy from drowning during a particular rainy season when the creek is over-flowing or distracting a predatory creature so that someone can escape.
But, regardless of the heroics, he disappears as soon as whoever he’s assisting is safe…”
Semi random shots from the First-Second-I-J quadrangle, plus one for balance and because I sure would like to know what happened to her big sister.. Any guesses as to why these four?
