What could be more festive at this time of year than some Cheer and Song Leaders?

I dated three of them, Wehmeyer dated two and married one (of the two). Haven't received a card or letter in many years.

I did not date Ms. Brownell, but her bro smacked me one above the eye which required a trip to the doctor and stitches (It was Jerry and it was in junior high). I have no idea where he is. I wonder ... BTW, Does anyhbody rememberf Klinefelter? I don't remember his first name.

Just noticed the 1974 typo - should be 1964 but it was May

Wishing one and all a Merry Christmas.  Woke this morning to a white Christmas in Idaho.  Things slow down.  Snow does that.  Drive slower, sidewalks need shoveling, even a path to the newspaper box has to be made.  If you can see the grass and lines in the roadways, enjoy  A beach with warm water would really be good.

The first day of winter was a brilliant sun rise day.  Fun to see the sun come over the horizon at it's most southern spot.  Now each day has just a little more light.  Something to celebrate.

Hope all are well, looking forward to a new year.

Best Wishes for the Holidays.

Bob

Thanks  Madeline.

Hi Bob.

You got me off on a tangent

Big fish story?

We all want that big fish, the great fight to dream and brag about, the broad silvery side that will keep us going thru the winter. When it all happens, the line tightens up and we realize there is a really big salmon on the end of our line we all need that some extra tips. - Its all about the experience, several thousands of salmon with 20 over 40 lbs is respect.

Wishing you all a (belated) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! The website will continue in January with ads.  Not sure how annoying that will be, but we will see.  Thanks for all your contributions, memories, and musings.  Best wishes for many good years to come.

Bruce that is a grand fish.  Did you take the picture?  If so what river where you on?  Looks like Snake or Lower Main Salmon.  The fishing was being done in a drift boat.  It great picture

Also to one and all, Happy New Year.  Lots of good things to look forward too.  Keep making a difference.

Best to all.

Hey Bob:

Just a fishfoto I grabbed off the internet, reputed to be in the Sawtooths.

Nearly fifty year old postcard from Robbie Bartlett in Nepal, 1969. Didn't scan too well.

I never went to Napoleone Pizza House where Tom Waits worked. It was  afterall, way over in National City, and once we moved out I hardly ever returned except to go to El Juan (I think the first time was with Robbie).

Anyway, Tom did (and it's still there today).

Napoleone Pizza House

"I thought high school was a joke, I went to school at Napoleone's."

At the age of 14 young Tom Waits got himself a job at Napoleone Pizza House in National City (San Diego/ CA). The place was run by Joe Sardo and Sal Crivello (who still runs the place).

Sal Crivello (2007): "He started when he was in high school, about sixteen years old. He was shy at first, but I think that was just because he was young. He washed dishes, and then he became a cook. He was an excellent worker. He made good pizzas"(20)

Still attending school, Waits would keep this job for about 5 years (from ca. 1963 to 1968). These years would prove to be a great inspiration for his later works, such as: Can't Wait To Get Of WorkThe Ghosts Of Saturday Night or even Shore Leave. It would have been just another pizza parlor, hadn't Waits mentioned it in the subtitle for The Ghosts Of Saturday Night.

LaBerta King (Forys)

Looking forward to meeting up with Gypsy (Baumgartner) Wayne when she briefly docks in Melbourne in early February on a cruise Downunder.  We have not met up since high school, so it will be a treat!  Show her and Gordon a few sites of beautiful Melbourne and hopefully take somewhere to get up close with a koala or kangaroo or two, per her wishes!

Well LaBerta I hope you two have an enjoyable visit. Is Gypsy by any chance bringing those monkeys with her?

For all of us stay-at-homes, here's an almost mural from Melbourne

More appropriately deemed a mural

One more - no kangaroo, no monkey, no koala

Wow. A blast from the past! thank you, Joan, for posting this. I enjoyed reading it all- especially the

prognostication about 1984! Who wrote that piece? Terry, I think, drew the header for the Editor's

article, right? And, if Terry is willing, he will share the story about why I had to pound on his front

door, on occasion. Such good times!

Hi Kay:

I thought you might appreciate it. There is a lot more that I'm working on making more readable.

I did notice that The Lance was to be published 16 times per year, yet this is #15 (May 27, 1964).

I wonder if one got skipped that year.

Why weren't these folks in class like everybody else?

First Ad Fake News

Interesting how one of the first ads on this site was fake news.  Sally Field did not die.  It was her mother actress Margaret Field who died at age 89.

Hi Bea and George.

My first ad, a couple days ago (maybe a trial run), was for Charmin. You tell me. They can be blocked.

Close to the "I love you sign" in ASL.

What school did this guy go to and what is the meaning of this gesture? Could he be wondering why Dave is the only one smiling?

Slow day over there in Bonita? Here too. I'm working on opening these newspaper pages in a separate and resizable window so that they can be read.

01/16/18 03:58 PM #3111

Bruce Wilson

I know who the ones selected were back there in  May of 1964.

Maybe KayO can knock us out with some insight into how the folks chosen were chosen?

Any guesses?

01/17/18 01:48 PM #3112

Kay Kozuye Ochi

It's all a blur. It could have been an afterschool meeting of a few of the Lance Staff- or- created by one person who was responsible for the article. So, check out the names of the staffers. I do recall that our adviser, Mr. Brelsford, let us do pretty much whatever we wanted. I wish that I had been selected "Best Dancer" with Jerry Olivas. I have happy memories of doing the "Surfer Stomp" with him at a dance in the gymnasium. He was spectacular! Bruce, will you post the actual "winners"?

01/18/18 04:53 PM #3113

Bruce Wilson

I seem to recall O'Day, Ochi, & Olivas being in there.

"The Big O", Oscar Robertson himself was not, though he would have been a shoe-in for most athletic.
