Shayne Maree Schuller (Morgan Sledge)

By the way, Jan and Scott Crockett and a few of their children came into my store in Aspen one winter over 20 years ago  Many years later I got on the lift with a friend and she introduced me to the woman next to her. Her name was January. We shared we were both from California, then more specifically San Diego, then Chula Vista, then Hilltop High and it was January Crockett, remarried with a new last name. I see her and her husband, Rolf, when they come to ski in the winter and hike in the summer.

Hey George:

D2E - clever but sounds too robotic and kind of wreaks of power.

That said, on the Eisenhower Presidential Library site he is referred to as DDE.(http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/research/online_documents/farewell_address.html)

Reading copy of the speech [DDE’s Papers as President, Speech Series, Box 38, Final TV Talk (1); NAID #594599]

This is the actual link for the "reading copy of the speech" which is interesting because it has cross outs and changes etc.

Hi Shayne: Next time you bump into Scott ask him if he remembers the Leslie Gano poem (I think it was MacDonald's (sp?) class.

Remember when Ike came to Chula Vista?

Ike arrived 10-21-1960 via helicopter from Balboa Park. He is one of 15 presidents to visit San Diego, but the only one  known to have come to CV. Some cynics claim that he came to play golf at the Country Club. Fortunately none was ever arrested for child endangerment whilst here.

It's hard to imagine a president visiting anywhere today without there being some video footage of the event. I have not, however, ever seen any for DDE's (now officiously approved) visit.

Shayne, there were posts on the Eisenhower visit to Chula Vista way back in this forum--pages 4 and 5.   The first was Post #93.

I have to believe there is film of TV coverage in those days stored somewhere.  Things like the Eisenhower visit, Johnny Downs and TV news.

There were media cameras at the Eisenhower visit.

Yeah George if we could ever find that film cache, we could become famous.

You can readily find footage of the other Ike (Turner) who died in San Diego (San Marcos) in 2007.

He was a talented muscian, but he had some (very) significant anger and drug issues.

Tina is the greatest.

I know there are some singers out there who tune in from time to time and I bet there are a few who remember Otis Day from Aninal House, so lets give a rousing welcome to my favorite interpreters of Shama Lama Ding Dong,

Please send your PSA and/or other doubles so that progress can proceed on this cool-lage.  Did anyone ever see The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada? Great film.

It seems that Michele has only gotten better with age. Dr. Wilson? Not so much, apparently has gone to the dawgz. Some one had asked about musical instruments a way back.

Well I was thinking that I didn't bring it up, but on second thought maybe I did. Anyway death hasn't shown any mercy in my life thus far. I'm sure there are many others out there paddling along in the same boat.

John Poe Moore, Jr.

On December 13, 1967 I had just returned from Viet Nam, and was at Camp Pendleton on the rifle range, requalifiying with some new weapons.  We were standing there a 6:00 am waiting to fire, freezing our rear ends off and they did not know what to do, as it had never snowed at Camp Pendleton for these guys!  So we were let go and I took off to Chula Vista, as that is where I got married three days later!  I once swore that I would not get married until Hell froze over!  Well, Chula Vista was froze over!  No wonder that one only lasted five years.  This second one is for thirty-eight years, but was done in the sun and not in Chula Vista!

Sorry, just a small contribution to the trivia!  See ya later!  Surf's up!

Here is my letter to President Obama. Please feel free to contact him at the White House if you agree.

Dear Mr. Obama:

Please use your executive authority to correct an unjust situation that exists in:

Part 682 --- Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program:

§682.216   Teacher loan forgiveness program.

Which holds:

  1. General. (1) The teacher loan forgiveness program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue in the teaching profession.

Yet also states

The forgiveness program is only available to a borrower who has no outstanding loan balance under the FFEL Program or the Direct Loan Program on October 1, 1998 or who has no outstanding loan balance on the date he or she obtains a loan after October 1, 1998.

This restriction unfairly penalizes those who meet all other requirements of the program, but happened to have an outstanding loan balance in 1998 and can hardly be viewed as an incentive to have continued in the teaching profession as the law intended.

I hope this is a matterwhich  will warrant your attention as an advocate of justice for all, not just millionaires and billionaires.

Thank you for your consideration.

Bruce Wilson

On a personal note, once you leave The White House stop in for some basketball and a beer on me.

Hi Madeline:

Maybe I'll just ride my bike up them. Still no Lahaye. Last time I saw him was at the 20 year reunion.

FYIThe Magnificent Seven

April 27, 1990|JOANNA DENDEL
Have you seen "The Guys?" They're little face sculptures by L.A. artist-turned-jewelry designer Robert Lahaye. In brushed gold or antiqued silver with tie-tack backs, they are seen in the best company. Janet Jackson wears them all over a vest in her "Miss You Much" music video. They cover a bustier worn by Gloria Estefan. But "The Guys," with names like Tiki, Spike, Ziggy and Razor, aren't just for girls. Rod Stewart wears all seven of them on his lapel. The collection of tiny faces, each less than an inch wide or an inch high, looks good grouped together on a jacket shoulder. Individually the pins can be tie-tacks or lapel pins. Each one is signed by the artist. At $25, they are a way to begin collecting Lahaye art. They are available at Ice in the Beverly Center and at Fred Segal, Santa Monica.

Don't have "The Guys" (yet), but here is

Enjoy the only such stage ride event in the country, a truly one of a kind experience!

The Butterfield Overland stage transported thousands of passengers across the United States years prior to the Civil War as California's first regular overland stage connection with St. Louis. Here is your opportunity to experience a rare event, a stagecoach ride through history.

Your adventure begins at the historic Warner-Carrillo Ranch House museum. Built in 1857, the ranch house served as the Butterfield Stage Stop, although that is just one part of its multilayered history, it is one of the most important aspects of the site. The adobe home tells the story of the emigrant trail, the overland stage, and the prominent ranching history of the area.

The journey will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes round-trip and includes a guided tour of the ranch house before or after each stage ride and light refreshments of lemonade and cookies will be included.

Sidney Cornell?

Some guy is doing some research about Friendship Park, and he ran
across a item about an "activist about Friendship Park in the 1970s
named Sidney Cornell."

Do any of you remember a Sidney Cornell?  Any relation to the
Cornell Stationery Cornells?

I know there was a Sidney Cornell who was active in the community and assume he maybe the owner of Cornells.

Marston House Exhibit

There is an interesting exhibit at the Marston House of memorabilia from the 2015 and 2035 Panama-California Expositions at Balboa Park:

"Souvenirs & Keepsakes:
Memorabilia of the 1915 & 1935 Expositions

Exhibition runs until November 30
The tourism movement of the turn of the century as experienced by San Diego's Exposition visitors will be explored through the personal objects that were eagerly sought after and collected, such as buttons, pennants, postcards, coins, and jewelry. These keepsakes have been handed down through the generations as tangible historical mementos of the Expositions, and continue to be cherished to this day."

Marston House:  3525 Seventh Avenue, San Diego 92103.  Tel: 619-297-9327.

Here is a good video on the Marston House:
