Beverly Burton (Ryan)

I have to go back to the Cafeteria food....I remember what Frank was talking about ....the cake was delicious and the cost perfect.  Do you remember the mashed potatoes with the hamburger gravy?   A couple of us girls were talking about it the other day about how the food was actually prepared on site. It was one of the hot items on the menu.   I will try the Apple Crisp recipe from Barbara, I don't remember it but it sounds great!.

Happy Holidays to everyone out there....Peggy, I am glad your recovered nicely from the terrible fire.  Your home sounds lovely.

Bev, I never ate in the cafeteria but I do remember the loose meat sandwiches served in the ala carte line.  They were so good!!!!  We actually have places here in Iowa that are close.  They are called Maid Rites.  They are close ..... but not quite up there.  And does anyone remember the delicious brownie/cookie/bar things that they sold?  It wasn't every day so when you knew they were having them you tried to get at the beginning of the line.  If you got stuck at the end, you were out of luck because they sold out quickly,  Again, don't know how they made any of these but they were good.  Funny how certain things just stick in your mind!

Wishing you all a very Blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!!!

Speaking of one of my favorite topics--FOOD--the Ranger cookies were the best. I've tried several oatmeal raisin cookie recipes, and none can match the soft, chewy goodness of the Ranger cookies. My favorite strawberry pie recipe came from a cafeteria lady. The paper on which it is written has yellowed with age, and is spattered with strawberry juice, but it's a winner every time.

It's not just all about primates. Must have been written around 1961-62.

Who can id all the instruments?

(↑) She made it - I helped disappear it!

More artifacts:

Johnny Elephant - lineage unknown. Probably Indonesian.

The Boy Scout knife I am told is very rare. Apparently only made in 1962 -1963.

Hi, Barbara (and all who are interested in the cafeteria apple crisp recipe):

We made it, and it DISAPPEARED!

Thank you so much!  It was great...while it lasted....!

I was in Wolfman Jack territory for the past two weeks teaching with my daughter at a retreat center, then up to O.C. to UCI to see Colin and the flight simulator he built for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Rusty the Snowmass avalanche dog lived next door to me. The Golden Retriever brigade is the highlight of our small town parade.  We are expecting 1-2 feet of snow over the next 2 days!

Hope to see a Memory Book when I visit CV or someone(s) come here. River and I are co-ordinators for the Yoga Journal magazine's conference yearly in Estes Park CO and we were there the same week as the reunion.

Great to see everyone in  the photos.

70th B'day party?

@ Kris:

In response to a request for a recipe, here is the Strawberry Pie recipe

One baked 9" pie shell

1 1/3 c sugar

6 tbsp cornstarch

2 c crushed strawberries

1 c whole strawberries

1 1/2 tsp lemon juice

1/3 tsp salt

Select one cupful pretty berries and set aside. Place crushed berries in a saucepan. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt; add to crushed berries. Cook and stir over medium heat until it thickens and is clear. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Let mixture cool. Place pretty berries on the bottom of cooled pastry shell. When crushed berry mixture is cooled, gently pour it over the whole berries in the pie shell. Refrigerate until cold. Garnish with sweetned whipped cream. Serves 6-8  Refrigerate any leftovers

I stated a while back that I ran with the Michigan Cross Country champ in a 10K. It's amazing that you can find any of this stuff, but so far I can only confirm that Paul finished tied at fifth inthe championship two-miler in 1969 at 10:22. The winner finished in 10:00.

I also ran a ways with Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland once over in Bel Air. He was definitley not a speedster, but was quite friendly.

This is about the right time frame.

Man, what a good-looking couple.

Resveratrol on the rebound. I took it for some time, then research indicated that it wasn't that useful. Now its getting another look.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/dec/22/resveratrol-stress-tsri-schimmel/

"don't rush me big boy" popped into my head one day when Michele asked me to do something.

I thought about the phrase and after a while Spanky's name popped up as a likely source.

Sure enough within 2-3 minutes on the old internet, I confirmed that it was Spanky and actually found the episode. (@5:35) Beginner's Luck (appropriate, huh?).

Ain't the internet something else?

All that pool playing down at Chub's club didn't just arrive out of nowhere.

The Hustler was 50 years old in 2011. You might not remember, but Jake LaMotta was in the film also.

Hasn't this been going on for more like 50+ years? Well, not the Tony Gwynn part.

— For the past 30 years, some 55 homes on Christmas Tree Circle on Whitney and Mankato streets in Chula Vista are festooned for the holidays, creating an attraction that draws people from throughout the county.

We parked over by Carol Hickman's house and did the walking tour the other night. We've been trying to recall who lived on Mankato/Whitney. Came up with Linda Tatreau, Gail Grosvenor, Evelyn Saks, Monson (who maybe moved later to King St.?). I'm pretty sure Monson played on a basketball team we had down at the Boy's Club when it was on I Street.

Did anyone build balsa wood and CO2 tube cars down there? I didn't, but I remember them.

Whatever happened to Evelyn Saks?

Here is some Christmas cheer for y'all. My daughter Molly revealed that she is ten weeks pregnant with twins! These will be our first grandchildren and we are very excited. Addie and I plan to spend the entire month of Jully 2015 in Charleston SC so we can help manage these little tykes. So 2015 is indeed shaping up as one of the most important years of our lives. I am also wishing for a New Year's eve triumph for our Georgia Tech Yellowjackets in the Orange Bowl. Molly and her husband Scott both graduated from Tech and I spent thirty years on the Tech faculty. They've had a great year (defined as beating Georgia!) and we hope they have one more great game in them. All the best to all of you in the New Year.

Happy New Year,  love and best wishes to all, Corinne

BTW, we were attempting to compile a list of HHS'ers who are presently living in CV (and probably Bonita)..

Anyone care to be included or excluded? If you're an excludee (i.e. don't want your whereabouts to be known), you can send me a private message.

Michele and I live in Otay, which technically is now a part of CV.

Congrats, Terry!  You are in for a "blast"!  We have seven (no twins,however)...all different, and so full of life and passion!   So happy for you all!

Michele (Adney):  we walked the Whitney St circle the other night, and it was so beautiful!  I tried to pick out Linda Tatreau's house after all these years.  I think it was 125 Whitney  St.; could you email her in Guam and ask her if I got it right?  Thanks!  Happy New Year everyone!  It has been a wonderful year reconnecting!  Much love!  We had and have an outstanding high school class!!

Poor Molly -- 10 MONTHS along? Only joking, Terry. We all know you meant weeks. Finding out you're going to be grandparents does something weird (but wonderful) to your brains! We love our 4 and wish you as much joy as we're having.

Happy Holy Days, Holidays, and Merry Christ Mass, Christmas to All. May the New Year continue to shower us with great JOY and bring Peace to our hearts and to the world.

Seven! Michele? I have two grandchildren, a girl one and a half and a boy four years old. They all spent the night with me so we could get up early Christmas morning. All of the grand parents live here and your help Terry, will be a blessing to all of you. Yes, it is my greatest joy to have them nearby.

Does Scrooge still live on Whitney?

Congratulations, Terry and Addie! Being a grandparent is the absolute best job in the world. Mike and I have 5 (3 girls, 2 boys) ages 8 yrs to 20 mo. Only two live nearby, but the other three are only a short Southwest flight away. Having "sleep overs" with the grands is one of the highlights of any year. Blessings to all of you.

Well, shayne...I'm thinking way back to the beginning of time, and I recall taking some detailed art lessons from your mother in your garage...very good lessons, by the way!  It was then that I first painted pictures of storks flying through the air with little bundles of joy clamped in their beaks!  My mom happens to have one of the masterpieces framed and hung on her wall to this very day!  Ha! ha! Ha!  Love you, Shayne Maree!

Love to You Michele Ruth. Can you still do the splits and walk-overs?

Yes, my Mom gave art lessons, was Brownie leader with Clarise O'Day, drama lessons and directed the plays she wrote. She counseled many on our couch and became a certified counselor through Unity Church.

My Dad and Al O'Day were Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders, took many of our friends fishing and camping coached Little League, Colt League and Pony League and played tennis with the HS team to keep his game up.

My parents' service, and it came from their hearts,  is my role model.

I remember your elegant Mom with great fondness, Michele.

Terry - Congratulations!!!!  Being a grandparent is a whole different kind of love.  I have 4 ages 13 - 22. plus two little great grands.  And to have twins!  You are in for a very special treat.  My sisters are identical twins and it's still fun to see the "twin moments" pop up.  There is a special connection between twins that no other siblings have.  Prepare to be entertained!
