Just thought I'd add that bea's husband's backyard town is a replica of where he grew up as a child, and the lake shown in George and Pam's photos actually has TIDES!  Fantastic to see!

George: I sent the photos of your model to my grandson!  Thank you! Thank you!

Happy holidays, everyone!

The daily (?) quotes message:

“But it's the truth even if it didn't happen.”...  Ken Kesey One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest ...

"I guess I'm not the man she was looking for I'm just the man she found"...  Dave Edmunds ...

"refugees in winter dress/skating home on thin ice/from the Apocalypse." ... Verandah Porche, describing her contemporaries in the LNS ...

"A thing is not necessarily true because a man dies for it. ... Oscar Wilde ...

Terry:

Michele and I visited Mickey & Peggy out in Julian just the other night. I just sent him a few photos. It seems that at camera time Mickey and I were always in close proximity, though in the last one he was standing next to Terry (catty-corner to me).

One last thing!  Mickey and Peggy Wright have a craftsman home in Julian, complete with a very long porch stretching across the entire front.  Their view from the porch (and all other vantage points) is spectacular!  This home replaces a previous home lost in the 2007 fire that we all remember so clearly.  Peggy has a gift for decorating like nothing I have ever seen (Christmas everywhere), and having the privilege of their hospitality truly kicked off the Christmas season for me!

Oh Hi Chele. You know I love you baby, but haven't you been spending an awful lot of time on that forum page?

Terry: Have you been reading ahead?

CPJHS 1959 Intramural Football champs. It appears that the L's were 7-9 and the M's were 7-10. Sure looks like Lahaye next to Longerbone and I think I found a  "Sir Guy" shirt in the L-9's group individuals page. As to the W's being in the W column  basketball-wise, it was undoubtedly due to the stellar play of guard tandem Mickey "The Pearl" and "Pistol" Bruce.

Hathaway's group (I don't know why I remember him so well) won both football and basketball and although there is no photo, Padelford's 7-16 "W" group also won softball.

Due to Michele. Check out this video. Sidewalk surfing take two. I've done this on body and surf board behind a boat, but never on the street. La Crescenta has a perfect location for it though. Stay tuned.

Here's that recipe. Let's hear it for our good old cafeteria!

HILLTOP HIGH APPLE CRISP

2 lg cans Comstock Pie-sliced apples

1/2 cups sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

Spead pie-sliced apples in 9 x 13 pan; sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon

TOPPING: Crumble together the following ingredients; then spread over apples in pan

1 stick margarine

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup all purpose flour

3/4 cup quick cooking oatmeal (uncooked)

BAKE 1 to 1-1/4 hours at 375 degrees. Tastes great served slightly warm but can be eaten cold.

Thank you, Barbara!  You won't believe this, but the first words out of Bruce's mouth this morning were, "Barbara never put the recipe out for the apple crisp."  When I told him seconds ago that it was here, he said, " oh, she must have heard us talking!"  Anyway, thank you so much!  We will put the recipe to good use, starting today!  Happy holidays!

Today's quote.

One of the truly great human beings I have known. Back in the UCI days, I had the pleasure of his converstaion for a couple of hours as I drove him from Irvine to L.A.

Does anyone remember if there was a Bill Gambles store in CV?

There was one in the South Bay Plaza in National City. 474-1184

Event History:
The San Diego Marathon (now the Carlsbad Marathon) is the second-oldest marathon on the West coast. The very first marathon ever held in San Diego, was run from Oceanside to Mission Bay. For many years the race was held annually in Mission Bay. In 1978 a new race was introduced in San Diego, The Heart of San Diego Marathon, which spanned the Coronado Bridge and finished at Qualcomm Stadium. In Motion, Inc. was hired to produce this new marathon in 1985 and three years later, negotiated a merger of San Diego's two marathons, the Heart of San Diego and the San Diego Track Club's Mission Bay Marathon. In 1990 In Motion took over ownership of the merged races and moved the Marathon to Carlsbad in North San Diego County where it remains and flourishes today.

I have my t-shirt somewhere. First marathon for me. I was hoping to find a course map, but there doesn't appear to be any photographic record. The last time I ever saw Dave Chalmers.

I remember the Apple Crisp and the spaghetti with burnt cheese on top from the cafeteria, but I was mainly an ala carte guy. For me it was the hamburger with sloppy joe meat, butterscotch sundae and the cake (cost a nickle). I think the whole meal was under 50 cents.

1959 CPHJS Scholarship Club (descending 9, 8 ,7)

Compare the relative size of the groups. Were there equal numbers of ninth, eighth, and seventh graders?

I'll come back to this, but Terry, ninth grade, row 2 the guy closest to the teacher.

Also, I wonder how they separated Link and Longerbone? And if I'm not mistaken Bill Burger is there in the first row of the seventh graders.   ....hmmmm...,

We received the Reunion Book today. According to approved protocol Michele & I are right next to Mickey & Peggy. I wonder if he's been following me all these years. I' spose he could be wondering the opposite.

Phil Groves (Scholarship photo downstream - HHS/1962, CPJHS/1959) ducked into one of the cabinets at the front of the room (in I believe Mr. Rice's class but I'm not sure) and spent the entire period inside, while everyone wondered if he was ever going to come out. He ended up at UCI later which I believe is where he got his Ph.D. He is listed as "emeritus" at UCSD and he got mad at me because I aced the neuroanatomy lab test and he didn't. Didn't you just hate the smell of formaldehyde? I've heard through the grapevine that his health is not good, though he attended their 50 year reunion briefly.

Row 6, column 5 sure looks like it could be that long lost "Sir Guy".  Biff is listed as Bill. Is this a misprint or was his actual name Bill?

I also received my copy of the photo memory book from the reunion photographer. And it really is nice that the names of people were listed,

My brother with the memory says the only Bill Gambles in the South Bay was probably the one in South Bay Plaza Center. The other one where my brother evidently shopped, was in Grossmont Shopping Center.

Thanks Karen. I'm trying to do a little research on my brother's (and mine) friend Finis Jones.

It's looking like Finis started at The Highlander and then moved to Bill Gambles. Jay Hollister worked with Finis and both died young.

Jay died while I was in high school. His death was my first run in of many with the Grim Reaper. Finis died in a strange motorcycle accident at age 34.

Well I am not a geek, but I resemble one. Let me know how it goes and/or email me if you have questions.

Once you start a post, look up and you'll see a button right next to the one that says "source"

Once you have found the image you want you'll have to click the upload button (it sometimes takes a while)

Finally you'll have to click the OK button most times, but not always.

Treasa:

It's a little bit different if the photo is not on your computer

Also, once a photo is in your profile it can be copied into the forum. Also, generally speaking the photo becomes pretty much public domain by it being posted in the forum. Once it's there anybody can copy it.

I copied the photo of the Choir and Chrtistmas tree in here an then deleted it.

I have received the Shutterfly book of photos. I believe Treasa Struble Skiles did all the work to put that together and what an incredible album she created. For any who are contemplating purchasing it, I can highly recommend it and thank you Treasa for all the work of putting it together.

It has been a great year, and just think three more years of Bruce and George.

For some reason this video has disappeared from vimeo, here's a placeholder till I track down why.

Getting into the Christmas spirit by running the Santa Mile in PB. Toby proved to be the fasted 4 y/o out there besting his mom and his Mimi. His dad ran a smok'n 5:25. Merry Christmas to all.

Congrats to all the runners. Tell dad to lay off those Lucky Strikes and he'll  probably go a lot faster (or at least feel better at the end). wink

I've mentioned my favorite skier, so equal time for running is in order.

Favorite has to be Mr. Ed Whitlock. His age in the photo below is 73 (note time). He did a 3:15:54 after age 80 and he owns just about every age group record there is. Google him up. Fascinating guy who proves the old saw "genetics wins out over training every time" (which he readily admits).

Michele tore her meniscus, so we've been doing more walking/hiking than running these days.

So, my favorite walker
