I remember Dennis Snyder well, even dated him.  He was a nice guy and I am sure continued to be one..  Makes me sad.  Does anyone know how he died?

P & JK:

I can find no info about Dennis other than a notice that he passed.

Having a baby at eleven may be a record. I'm still waiting to get my left eye "corrected" so I make errors.

Upon further keypunching, I guess not:

ˈLina MedinaLina Marcela Medina de Jurado (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈlina meˈðina]; born on 23 September 1933) is a Peruvian woman who became the youngest confirmed mother in medical history, giving birth at the age of five years, seven months, and 21 days. She lives in Lima, the capital of Peru.

2009 LLBWS champions Park View Little League de Chula Vista now have an electronic scoreboard in their possession.

When the McAllister Yanks won the CV League (1950 something), there were two kids who sat on the board and flipped the numbers. One of them, Vanna White went on to great fame in the flippping business. I ran into her in Burbank in the supermarket parking lot, but she didn't want to talk about it.

I'm thinking the year was 1957, since I found this for July, 1959 which shows that Frank was in Pony League by 1959.

The Hathaway and Quigley Indians won it by beating the Rohr Rockets, 7-1, as Frank Fernandez pitched a two-hitter and struck out 15. The Indians got their runs on Fernandez' double, John Campbell's steal of home, Hon Perry's single, Campbell's home run, Steve Trowbridge's single and : Perry's steal of home.

BTW Jo Karen, kudos to your former daughter/now lil sister on that sub five mile and standing up for herself and what is right.

I had some how gotten it in my head that I had done a sub five also, but I found some numbers recently that indicate that was wrong-headed.

Wasn’t Dennis Snyder a drummer in band?  If he is who I’m thinking of, he was one of the really nice guys. Sorry he didn’t make it a bit further along than 72.

A quick check doesn't show Dennis in the percussion squad, but Treasa (and others - more later) are there (including Carl Ramsey).

I actually played the {base} drum in Padelford's band room at CPJHS. I should have stuck with it. Maybe could have gotten a spot with Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzman in the Grateful Dead.

Moving right along in the book.

Jim always liked John better? Or, the two of us were having a "bad hair" day in Junior High?

This is notable for many reasons:

Another smiling Jim and Mr. Shine

Three of my favorite high school Crushettes (was that a formal club?)

Hamels and Bandelin doing their (mirroring real life) Back to the Future fade out

There are more ...

Newt-You are correct. Dennis did play drums in the band, but I don't find any photographic evidence. Larry Sorenson may have a better recollection.

Condolences to Treasa Skiles on the passing of her husband Mike.

Mike was a '63 graduate of Hilltop. Some of you likely knew him.  He lived on 2nd Ave around the corner where I lived on Del Mar Avenue when we were in school.

Here is the obituary from the San Diego Union-Tribune:

Michael Leslie Skiles January 24, 1946 - May 1, 2018 San Diego Mike was born in Brawley, CA, to Ralph and Betty Skiles. The family moved to Chula Vista in 1949, where Mike attended elementary, junior high and high school. He graduated from Hilltop High in 1963, where he honed his tennis skills for a lifetime love of the sport. After graduation, he attended SDSU (class of '66) and USD School of Law (class of '71).

After passing the California Bar, he went to work for a national retailer, climbing the corporate ladder with moves to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Georgia, and Rochester, Michigan. In 1996, he returned to San Diego, where he was asked to head the Western Region for a major home-improvement chain. He was a former member of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate Policy Advisory Board.

He was an avid tennis player, long-distance runner Boston Marathon Finisher in 2014 with son, Brian swimmer, avid Aztec fan, long-suffering Padres fan, and world traveler. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by Treasa, his wife of 50 years, their sons and respective spouses, Brian (Lee) and Kevin (Milly), five lively "Grands": Olivia, Chloe, Jack, Toby, and Shelby, and his three sisters, Diane Taylor (Steve Reed), Cathy McCarty, and Barbara Gauthier (Dale), in addition to 9 nieces and nephews and their children. Mike will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial services will be held at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church on June 2 at 2 p.m. A celebration of life follows at the Skiles residence in Point Loma. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or The Elizabeth Hospice.

Teresa,

I'm not sure I ever met your husband but if you married him, he had to be a great guy. I'm so sorry for your loss, but as I remember you, you were a strong person and you know you have to keep going, for the sake of your family and friends that love you.

Wilt died, unfortunately, at age 63 from conjestive heart failure.

I met him at UCLA and he tried to 'meet' Michele when she played for the PSA Jets, but she ran.
