Speaking of the neighborhood bully, I tracked one down. Don't know how much to say.

So, from current HHS website:

BULLYING

The Sweetwater District does not tolerate bullying in any form. Please help us by sharing any information you have about bullying or suspected bullying involving our students. Contact an Assistant Principal if you have any questions or to report a bullying incident.

Report incidents of bullying to the Bully Box in the Counseling Center and in the Library.

You can also report incidents of bullying to an Assistant Principal:

Ms. Leila Kashani
Assistant Principal
leila.kashani@sweetwaterschools.org

Ms. Karen Hernandez
Assistant Principal
Email: Karen.Hernandez@sweetwaterschools.org

Mr. Ricardo Gomez
Assistant Principal
Email: Ricardo.Gomez@sweetwaterschools.org

If you have witnessed bullying, and it is safe to do so, please step in and tell the bully to stop his or her actions. Peers are the best way to intervene and put a stop to bullying.

* AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL *

THE NATIONAL PARKS AND FEDERAL RECREATIONAL PASS

Lifetime Passs for U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, 62 years or older.

Is going up from $10.00 to $80.00  August (the 28th I believe)

There is no recovery system so if you've lost yours, better get a replacement now.

This is what mine looks like. I told Michele I'd show her mine, if she'd show me hers, but she's still thinking about it.

That is a facsimile only, not my number. It could belong to the neighborhood bully.

The most successfull pro baseball player during our high school years was Don Wilkenson who made it to triple A. He was an outstanding football and baseball player who graduated with the class of 1963. I didn't know that Dirk was drafted. He played at San Diego State. A lot of outstanding players were never drafted including Fernandez and Braswell. My guess is Braswell signed as a free agent but he joined the air force pretty soon after high school. Both of them would have done well in professional baseball. I never played with a more consistent hitter than Dave Braswell. Wilkenson was what they call a five tool player; he could run, hit and hit with power, field, and throw at a major league level. The rest of the story on that amazing Escondido game is the fact that we beat them that night, 18-13 as I recall. We pounded them on defense forcing Bob Blunt (who later played at Stanford) to fumble three times. This was the result of a briolliant defensive scheme that Tomlinson developed where the defensive backs on each side targeted Blunt when he went in motion. We crashed at the sign of movement and occupied their backfield all night. Coach Embry was livid that we beat them so soundly. Of course, he blamed the absent referees. The first two years after they joined the Metro League they were champions so beating them was quite an achievement. Our senior year we narrowly lost to them in Escondido in the famed "mud bowl" game, 7-0.

Don had slipped my mind. I wonder what he's doing these days. He hasn't checked in on  the 1963 page.

I also wonder about this from David Braswell's obit

David graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1964. Throughout his childhood David loved playing baseball, and had advanced his game enough to be drafted by the White Sox out of high school.

I  can see getting the high schools confused, but the White Sox draft?

Gonna check this one out.

Link to the "Lifetime Senior Pass" Info. There is also a link to area offices where you can obtain a pass. Thanks Bruce!

The Pt. Loma Lighthouse park is a good place to get the pass. I used to run out to the lighthouse and one day the ranger stopped me and said I needed a pass. I told him I'd come back with the money and I did.

He actually informed me of the Senior Lifetime pass, which he assured me I'd be eligible for at some time in the future.

Cave Mural at El Carmen (not far from  Punta San Francisquito in Baja). Possibly discovered by Erle Stanly Gardner.

This one is very likely "discovered" by Mr. Gardner.

Bruce, thanks for the info about the National Parks pass, have had mine since 2008 and used it many many times. I shared the info with others and I think the park service will have many purchases of the pass before the increase.

Hope your surgery/recovery has been a success.

Thanks Karen:

The air bubble that the surgeon leaves in your eye to keep up constant pressure on the retina has dissipated and I'm "seeing" significant improvement in my vision. Soon I'm not going to be able to blame my poor spelling on poor vision (though I still have one eye left to go).

I had to do only minimal "facedown" recovery luckily. Some folks go into months of recvering .

I kind of batted the cvysle on this one: cataract and YAG laser on the front of the eye and the vitrectomy & epiretinal membrane peel at the back.  Will be visiting my surgeon, who I think is qiute good, tomoorw.

They'be been working on the Parkway Rec Center. I'll have to get down there and check it out.  Bleachers were supposed to be completely removed from the old gym.

Built in 1955 the Parkway Aquatic Center has long been the center of aquatic activity in Chula Vista. The heated pool is 33 meters by 25 yards.

Part of the upgrade includes free WiFi.

Meanwhile, in another part of town I ran into this guy.

We drove up to Sequoia today to get another Senior Pass.  Stopped in Three Rivers for lunch and ice cream.  Made for a nice outing.  Two things came to mind as I was driving home.  First, the pass is issued to an individual, not a family, so if you think you and your spouse might want to use it separately, you each need one. Second, with the huge price increase coming up, if you have a tendency to lose things, you might each buy two, and put one in your safe deposit box.  Sounds like cheap insurance to me.

Color xerox the pass (both sides) and your driver's license or state senior ID. This will work. I have used a copy without problem.

I now have the original at home and five copies, having reached the point in life where things are easily misplaced..

In certain cases you just want to get your car in. One pass will work. Cheaper by the Dozen?

Just FYI, copied from the Sr. Pass link smiley:

Are there any other benefits from a Senior Pass?
Yes, traveling companions can also enter for free. The Senior Passes admit pass owner/s and passengers in a noncommercial vehicle at per-vehicle fee areas and pass owner plus three adults, not to exceed four adults, where per-person fees are charged. (Children under 16 are always admitted free.) Also, at many sites, the Senior Passes provide the pass owner (only) a discount on Expanded Amenity Fees (such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and guided tours).

We took advantage of our psuedo-Senior-passes to roam almost unfettered around CeeVee today.

It's a long story. It's going to have to have chapters (maybe a little verse).

Not far into the journey we encountered the Plaza Monumental de Frederico Rohr. Any guesses at the locale?

Almost unfettered? What up?

What's wrong in this photo? Might want to ask what's right.

For starters you cannot legally reserve parking places in a public park, especially with illegal alcohol containers.

Re Jim's research:

So if we went with Bob Dylan (and he had his pass with him), Chele, me and Butch Hindman and all those kids could get in free. I wonder if Butch still has his hat.

A good shot of part of the ramble yesterday. La Motín de la policía[?] occurred just north of the boat slips.

And just what do you think of UTC Aerospace Systems  de La Playa, Chula Vista (which has taken up some of the Rohr slack)?

Why not read what some emplyees have to say.

Even homeless camp kids need a place to play. The people who were there a few years ago have all been asked to leave. Near Gunpowder Point.

We inadvertently neglected our laggers, so Michele and I had to forego a hop off. She probably would have outscored me on grace, but I think I'd have taken her in the height department, though I no longer can dunk a volleyball.

CeeVee Gym - July 22, 2017.

New floors, no bleachers. The one guy and two short shorts gals at the end claimed to have next game, but nobody could find the sign up sheet.

Shoe_wise, it looks like only one of them came to play.

CV bayfront renderings. And to think, most all of the rendering used to be done right down the street from us at OMAR

The area where the homeless hopscotch grid is located will become Signature Park. I suppose that is why they were asked to leave. their response? "We'll be back"
