Unfortunately, I'm not planning to be at the Reunion. I'll be watching what you post here. I have posted a high resolution panorama of the 1961 Hilltop Junior High class photo. (See URL address below) Look at lower left of the page that comes up and use the plus and minus buttons to zoom in and out. (This is a  30MByte image.) Use your mouse to pan the image. Sorry if this is a repeat by someone else. I'm also hoping to post the 1964 annual and if I have time, post others. I realize you can buy it on-line, but for $100? No way for me.

Since this is a large image, it will first come up in low resolution. If you have a slow internet, it might take too long for you to wait. It took about 3 to 4 minutes on a slow 4G Verizon to have the entire image appear in high resolution, so be patient. It could take 5 to 10 minutes on slower networks. Once it is up you should be able to freely pan and zoom over it. (Sorry for the high resolution, it may show pimples.)

Let me know by email if you  have trouble with the panorama. (jnperdue@gmail.com). Sorry for the creases in some faces. It wasn't stored in the best way. It does require that you have QUICKTIME installed.

Thanks Newt. A few faces jumped right out at me. I think we've got Ace Boyer and Les Stark.

I see frequent contributor George Gillow. There's you, George Kelly, Lanette, someone who got his face obscured, Steve Williams (long time no see - in Hawaii now?) ... I think I must have been off visiting college campuses, cuz I don't see myself. I wouild think I would have been somewhere near this group.

The high res is great. A couple more of the HJHS "H" sisters. One was a girlfriend between Corinne & Michele.

Hey Bruce and Karen,

No doubt in my mind -- Dean Butterfield is the good-looking guy in the picture.

Right you are Rosie. I'm waiting to hear from Karen about one of us contacting him. He is in the photo Newt posted too.

These "L" fellows were/are a pretty sharp group, so it got me to wondering how they ended up in the "B" section. At least the two Bobs are smiling. Jim was trying, but he was wondering what schools I was visiting and if I would be applying to West Point or Annapolis.

LaHaye & Powell knew it was neither, so they're crackng up. That Is Jan Pierce I do  believe, she can't wait to get back to hitting balls. Jo Ann, Anita & Bev were in on it. As was Robbie's gf Paula.

Here's what I would call an unlikely grouping, I'll say why later.

Les, (help me out here), Ace, Jerry, Jerry, Greg

OK, I did it, sent an email to an address listed on the website with the photo of Dean Butterfield. I said in the email that Bruce, Rosie and Karen would like to contact Dean about our 50th reunion. Keep your fingers crossed. I think for sure he'll remember Rosie and Bruce.

Re Newt's photo.

I do not see Georgia Farrington in the photo either, but she was not visiting colleges with me. Maybe she was riding that pony on the farm.

Probability of being creased in Newt's phoyo maybe 1 in 40?

How can can it be?

Thanks for the picture Jim it sure brings back memories.  I won't be able to make the reunion but I hope everyone will talk about it after.  Please put pictures on, would love to see everyone.

Bruce, maybe someone already said but weren't the two dark haired girls Carol & Gloria?  If I remember right they were pretty much inseperable.  And yes, like Rosie, I recognized Dean.  I was wondering about Jerry Olivas too..  We were like best friends but it got kind of funny because from junior high through high school, no matter what our class schedule was, it seemed like we always ended up in the same English class.

Michele:

Carol Hickman (my gf) and Gloria Haider. Gloria lived a couple blocks from Lanette Hughes (the 3rd H) and Carol lived right off First Avenue a couple of blocks from me on Whitney.

Jerry lives up in Carlsbad. We've emailed a few times since I came back to CV. As I recall his wife writes cookbooks and/or is a chef. He still surfs, I believe with John Moore.

Quick question!  Will we be receiving any tickets or confirmation of reservations for the Saturday night reunion dinner?  My cousin, Sharree (Ballard) Galloway was also wondering.  We know our checks were received because they were cashed so just wondering about tickets or ?????  Thanks!

Okay 2 quick questions!  smiley  I know I saw a list of the Chula people who had signed up.  Is there also a list of the Castle Park people?  Thanks ..... again!

Good to see Bob Beckwith is here. Hopefully he'll post up some of his photos.

This is probably not Bob, but certainly Beckwith country.

I think this is me, the day the HJHS group photo was taken. I remember the hat.

Hi Bob,  great to hear you've done well.  We have friends that have a cabin in Salmon and got to visit last year, beautiful country.

Bruce and Rosie I am happy to report that I did get an email response from Dean Butterfield. And sounds like he is doing well. He has business in Colorado and California and splits his time in each. He might have interest in a reunion activity. I was so sure he would not remember me, but would surely remember Bruce and Rosie. He remembers all of us. I gave him the information about this website so I'm hoping he will sign up and send us some memories of his. What a great find! And Bruce you are much more skilled with the technology world perhaps more people can be found?

I hope Dean shows up. Meanwhile Classmates.com (which I don't particularly care for) has this as Dean's brother (and fellow trumpeteer) Dale.

Here's Dale (and someone Patty should recognize) back in 1956. Second image is a scan, first is from a camera photo.

Also, my screen saver image and three photos of Beckwith country - nice, huh?

I had told Phil, I would scan and upload the HJHS sports teams. It's an old scanner and I'm not impressed with the results, but here are the teams. That's not photoshopping mid-page, the Sieradzki/Townsend/Roberts squad was called "The Varsity". There's a story behind the smaller version, which someday I may get around to telling.

Thanks, Bruce, the pictures brings back lots of memories.  I will look forward to hearing the story on the other picture.

You're welcome Phil. I'm sure I can get a cleaner image. The "annual" photos are actually pretty clear. I'll replace it when I get  a better image.

Random thoughts:

What were the events for all those track team members with the bulging triceps?

What happened to Hanano?

Spurgeon is not very tall.

I do not remember anything about volleyball in junior high school, but I did start playing two man on the beach and in the gym after high school. As near as I can figure Byron Shewman was the most successfuil VB player to come out of what is now called the South Bay (in addition, he is a very insightful author, and a good man).

Quick observations. Doesn't look like Frank was on the track team. Phil, Terry, Gary, Mickey were three-sport triple threats. I'm sure there are others. It's graph theoretic problem left to the reader.

Why no analysis of the girl's teams ...  whoops ...  don't go there Bruce.

Bruce, I can't tell but it looks like Frank on the very back row of the track team and he is fourth from the right hand side.  Who does it look like to you?  Also, those shorts we wore in basketball were very short compared to what is worn in todays game.

Frank was not fast in junior high school. I don't recall any field specialties for him. His strong arm might have made him a shot-putter but I was a shot putter and I don't remember him in that role. What surprised me is that Frank was plenty fast his senior year of high school. All the quarterbacks ran together in sprints and he was right there all the time. In games, when he had to run he was elusive and that helped him become the best quarterback in the metro league in 1963. He was the best pure passer I ever saw in high school. It might surprise people but one of our best sprinters in junior high was Hank Sieradzki. He was goofy in other sports, but he could really run. When he transferred to Riverside Poly after his sophomore year of high school, he ran track against more serious competition. The star of that team was Bobby Bonds (father of Barry).

Good catch Phil. That's why it's nice to have other folks looking at these images. That is Frank, I think he is standing next to George Kelly.

Frank definitely had the arm. When he came off the mound on our Little League team I moved from short to third so we could get more outs.

I went to an "A" baseball game the other night (Lake Elsinore & Rancho Cucamonga) and was surprised at how deep both the short stop and third baseman played. I hated thinking about a hard hit ball coming down the third base line and hitting me in the face.

I'm persistent, so I'll get clear images at some point. May have to upgrade the 14 year old scanner though.

Bruce - Do you remember Boyer driving his 1950 Ford to Hilltop Junior High?  That thing would smoke and backfire.  He had to park on the street because there was no student parking. (Maybe even down in the next block, because Junior High students were not allowed to drive to school.  District rule) He was the only student old enough to have a drivers license in Jr High.
