More occasional news from the dark side of CV. This time from the eighties. This part of town is now referred to as West or Old CV. Isn't that where most of us, except those dairy farmers, equestrians, and Desiraes from Bonita and Sunnyside, lived?
Exene Cervenka, John Doe are pseudonyms, but are actually real people who were members of the punk band X. When I worked in Century City I lived in Hollywood, but that's another story.
I knew this guy and have a friend who hung around with him at times.
A Chula Vista, woman was the victim of a kidnapping' attempt Monday, according to Chula Vista police.Exene Cervenka, a receptionist ,at Third Avenue Pharmacy, was allegedly kidnapped, tied up and held in an apartment in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue by an acquaintance, John Doe, 35. Police reports give this account of the incident: Doe lured Cervenka to his apartment on the pretense he was going- to pay back some money the victim had loaned to him. Once inside, Doe allegedly pulled a gun and told the victim, "I'm sorry it has to be this way, but it's out of my hands. It's got to be handled this way. More people are involved than, just me." . Doe then reportedly tied Cervenka with three or four
.. . couldn't go through with the kidnapping and ransom, untied her, took her into the parking lot where he released her unharmed. Doe then fled the scene. Police arrived moments later, found Cervenka, and made a search of the apartment. Inside they found three or four lengths. of rope in the bedroom, what appeared" to 'be a starter pistol, and two hypodermic syringes and burnt spoon, which indicated narcotic activity. Police searched the apartment and the area but did riot immediately find Doe. Doe was found a few hours later in a storage room by a residents of the apartment complex. His wrists had been slashed in an apparent suicide attempt. He was taken into custody and transported to Community. Hospital and then transferred, to University Hospital's jail. ward for observation.
