James E. Jimmy' Hitchcock 1947 - 2015 Chula Vista James "Jimmy" E. Hitchcock, a man of many hats, lover of a good find from his travels, backseat soup stirrer, and expert crossword puzzle solver, passed away early Saturday, November 7th, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. Known for his mellow disposition, Jim was a strong, kind man who found joy in the simplest of things and in making those around him happy. His positive attitude and optimism got him through many of the challenges he faced in his life, putting everyone around him at ease and creating a comforting sense of capability for those lucky enough to know him. Jimmy enjoyed life on every level with his wife and best friend, Sandy (Sandra Bennett). They were often on the road together heading to see friends and family from Salem to San Felipe. To them, staying home meant camping trips to local mountains, beach days and walks on the pier, off-roading in the Anza-Borrego desert, and Wednesdays at the Galley. For Jim, it was also a chance to get some bottles cut for another set of craft drinking glasses, catch a ball game on TV, or to help a neighbor in need of a handyman. Born in 1947 to the late Orley E. Hitchcock and Sofia (Covarrubias) Hitchcock, Jim was raised in Chula Vista along with his brothers Lyle J. Hitchcock and Raymond Hitchcock. He graduated from Hilltop High School in 1964. Jim served in the United States Army and upon returning from Vietnam, worked in carpentry, landscaping, and was, for many years, a building inspector with the City of Chula Vista before retiring to spend more time in his garage at home and of course, with family. Always a figure of honesty, strength, and steadiness, Jim was not only a loving father and grandfather, but also a role model for his children Jeff, Brenna, Christine, and James as well as five granddaughters Jaime, Ava, Ruby, Audrey, and Jillian. His fun-loving nature and bad dancing will live on through them all. Jimmy lived his life with positivity, joy, and love and leaves behind some big shoes to fill. He will be missed but his legacy will continue in each person whose life he touched. He and his family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all close friends and family who have made this life so rich and full of love and fun throughout the years. Also, special thanks to LightBridge Hospice for their compassion and care. We truly appreciate each and every one of you. A private celebration of life is planned.
I can't think of a more American person than Jim based on his obituary. He's the epitome of the good American citizen. We need more like him. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, I didn't know him well but he was a Lancer.
