You're welcome Linda. By any chance do you remember the name of the bar that  was across the street from where the peir is? Last time I was there would have been in the late 1960's.

October 1, 2016  ~ Hi Bruce,, During the late 1960's the name of establishment in Imperial Beach across the street from the PIER there may have been called, - "The TIKI-HUT Bar" -  Does that ring any bells with you or anyone else out there that may remember? ..

Bruce there was another large bar that attracked bikers, it was called the

Rathskeller in the late 60's and before that it was the Beachcomber. (this is fro Dennis not Rosie, she didn't hang it places like that!

Thanks Dennis. That's it. I had moved up North and was down for a visit and my older brother Woodie and I went down for a night on the {small) town.

I recall at least one pool table (Woodie was very good, not as good as Jay Swanson though and I was more of a snooker player) and yes indeed there were a number of mototcycle enthusiasts in attendance

I also recall chatting it up with Dewain Short and I believe there were substances  (now on the verge of becoming legalized in California) in use that would more than likely have kept it off Rosie's tovisit list.

I haven't talked to my ex-CVPD buddy Crozier in a while, but he had some Dewain stories and he does like to talk.

Not IB,  South Mission. We weren't old enought to get in, so we got our beer from the liquor store across the street and sat on the beach, where drinking was legal, or in our case, semi-legal back in the day. BTW, right across the street is The Pennant where we (Michele & I) attended Terry Foster's  70th birthday get together.

Bruce, there was a pool table and a shuffelboard table there.  Byron wrote a article on Brian French a good reed. It's on the web.(Dennis)

Lord Byron or Rosie's son?

Please share either.

10/03/16 01:44 PM #2347

Bruce Wilson

SMSMS: I thought Lord Byron is Rosie's son. Shows how much I know. Conerning that bar in IB, I'm pretty sure Karen peaked in the door one time

Fence on Palm in IB near 13th Street. Michele's father recalls when the area used to flood.

There's more to the story than meets the eye. Later.

The 'no guesses photo' back a ways is 'Big Corona' (del Mar) and Newport Beach (Wedge) to the north.

Big Corona was for the inlanders. 'Little Corona' was for the locals. Not great for surfing, but soometimes the boogie board riding was excellent.

Apparently now aka the Robert E. Badham Marine Life Refuge.  Anybody recognize the name?

Badham, a Republican lawmaker in Newport Beach and good friend of Reagan, died of a heart attack at age 76 in 2005. I would have said only 76, but that's my bias.

As an assemblyman from 1962 to 1976, Badham co-authored legislation to establish personalized state license plates and to help protect tide pools along the Southern California coast.

I have no idea where this was taken, but I know it is not Lyle Hitchcock..

The kid in the white hat in the photo below fell off the wing (presumably before takeoff).

I was driving down to 4th and H through the old neighborhood and remembered falling out of a tree in what we called the "parkway" and knocking myself unconcious. We went to the beach that day and all I did was sleep.

Most of the trees are gone now, but I think there may be some left on I Street.

Yea, fortunately I was not on the wing at take-off or I would have been "Gone with the Wind".

Interesting that none of the adults in the picture were my parents nor of my friend Tom Feeney who is on the wing, wearing a dark "sailor suit" and looking down.

I don't know how we ended up at the airport that day but I remember it like it was yesterday. Everything from the ride out to seeing the plane take off. I thought we were going to get a ride and was disappointed that we did not. However, I had flown before on a Locheed Lodestar.

Well, another year has flown by. Recall my post 1645 (about page 67) of one year ago that showed the 2012 10-4 Day parade in Hollywood.

Here is the parade from last hear:

There is a TV news story, today, about the Chula Vista streets named after fallen heroes.

The story on TV 10 mentions Brian Webber and shows his sign in a few scenes.  This is not yet on YouTube so here is the link :   http://www.10news.com/news/councilman-wants-to-name-new-neighborhood-streets-after-citys-fallen-military-heroes-052515#

November 11th was originally called Armistice Day to commerate the end of WW I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

There were a lot of WW I songs on YouTube.  This video has two of them:

Coach Testa's Passing

This from the Hilltop '66 site:

Birth: April 25, 1934

Death:  November 5, 2016

Burial:  No services planned

Ted passed on November 5, 2016. He had been in poor health for the past 16 years. He spoke a lot about his students at Hilltop and enjoyed his position as Physical Education Teacher for 30 years.

School Story

Ted retired in 1989 and moved to Castella, California, in the far north end of the state. His retirement property was the great love of his life and he was so sad when his health forced us to live on the grid, instead of off the grid. He accomplished so many of the things he wanted to do and for that I am thankful. He fished and dove in Baja, ran whitewater rapids, mined for crystals in Colorado, hunted and fished and many other outdoor things which made him happy. He restored antique parlor stoves and kitchen stoves and turned himself into a real pioneer kind of guy. I loved him dearly and will miss him so much, as will many of his friends.

Thank you, Nancy Sherer Testa

Theodore William (Ted) Grigg

I remembered coach Testa over the years. His contest for the most set ups wore a large sore on my tailbone. ☺ Those were hard gym floors! His specific exercise routines remain in my periodic exercises to this day. He was a great person and he loved his work at Hilltop. Sorry to hear about his passing and my prayers and thoughts go to his family.
