Karen:

Mr. Green came to at least one. I have photos in my archives somewhere. I'll have to poke around for a while.

I have a number of photos of the get-together a Rohr Park, I can't recall which one that was.

Bruce:

My condition was Mitral valve regurgitation.  Because the valve couldn't close, the blood would try to flow back into the heart.  They don't know what caused it.  They can't even identify it because the Dr put me on antibiotics before the surgery, so the lab results are skewed by the drugs.

Now a little bragging.  My son Zach is the drummer for a CW band "Terra Bella".  Here is a link to some of their work.  Once you get there, check out several of their videos.  "The Old Black Bridge" has some good footage of Zach.  They are now in Nashville trying to make it big.

John:

I had the impression that my mom's was probably congenital.

During mitral valve prolapse, the leaflets of the mitral valve bulge (prolapse) upward or back into the left atrium as the heart contracts.

Mitral (MY-trul) valve prolapse sometimes leads to blood leaking backward into the left atrium, a condition called mitral valve regurgitation.

In most people, mitral valve prolapse isn't life-threatening and doesn't require treatment or changes in lifestyle. Some people with mitral valve prolapse, however, require treatment

It sounds like yours was a more severe instance of what she had. Anyway I hope you stay on the straight and narrow recovery trail.

This link syntax is easier to follow.  Congrats to you and Zach. Terra Bella is an excellent band. I notice Zach has his "Dylan Shades".  Joan Beyerle's son is in a band also.

Hi John,
I am praying for complete healing and strength in your recovery. Sounds like you have really been through a lot.
I have attended all but two of the reunions/bday celebrations .
So I'll see you at the 70 th. Take care!

Karen Etsuko Tachiki (Savel)

John, wish you a speedy recovery, though sounds like it should be a slower paced and careful recovery. Since are a person I didn't see at the reunion I'll look forward to seeing you at the 70th birthday celebration. And in the meantime will send along many positive thoughts for a complete recovery.

Bruce thanks for that photo...I recognize you, MIchele and Rosie, and working on who all the rest of those people are.

Through the miracles of surgery we can, like cats, be blessed with several new lives.

And, like Michele, be running again..

Blessings to you, John, in your recovery.

Hey John, it was good talking with you at the 50th. You told me about all of your travels, hope this doesn't slow you down too much. Please take care of yourself!

Karen:

If you need some help, I can name just about all of them. You'll notice a familiar face right behind Michele.

Rosie's brother is there too.

John, I wish you a speedy recovery.   I am sure you will be up to full speed shortly.

My wife, Pam, had her Aortic valve replaced 15 years ago and she is doing great.  She exercises a lot and lives a normal life except she has to take blood thinner--warfarin.

About 1% of the population are born with an Aortic valve that only has two cusps.  A normal one has three cusps and is shaped like a Mercedes-Benz logo.  So with the triangular shape it holds the valve firm.  But with only two cusps the valve may collapse with time and needs to be replaced.

We knew there was a problem when her heart started to sound like the "cooing" of a pigeon.

Just let me know if/when anyone is ready to start 'brain-storming' for our 70th Birthday Celebration & we could begin drumming up some good/cool/great ideas right here/together on this amazing HHS Message Forum,,, ok...

John, thanks for letting us know what you are going through so that we can keep you in our thoughts and cheer on your progress.

70th birthday party - love the idea of something outdoors and informal.  Would be happy to do whatever I can from NH to help orgaize it.  The Bowl is a lovely place - brings back memories of our CVJH graduation.  Another thought - a pot luck at the J St marina.

Bruce, just wanted to say thank you for the tip about pepper and tumeric.  I wasn't aware that pepper improves the bioavailability of tumeric.  I've taken tumeric for several years and now I'm taking a supplement that includes BioPerine.  The results have been quite noticeable.  Thanks again!

I think a potluck for our 70th Birthday Celebration is a great idea.  The Chula Vista park or marina would be delightful places.  However, I'm perfectly willing to open up my Mt. Helix home and patio for the celebration if people would be interested in a more private venue.  I have a rather large patio and pool area that sadly isn't utilized enough.  I'm on a corner and there's considerable parking on the side street.

Hi Gypsy,

I think a party at your place would be great!!  It is always nice to have someone host the event in a private home - plus the parks in CV are heavily populated on the weekends - just sayin'.

Altho, I am only turning 68 this month so I don't know that I can attend the 70th birthday with you old fogeys hahaha

Treasa Struble (Skiles)

A couple of comments re the 70th b-day party. Although the park or marina might be good spots for pot lucks, in addition to the "other crowd" factor, the serving of "adult beverage" would be an issue. Cities usually take a dim view to the serving of adult beverages on public property.--just sayin'

Gypsy-Your offer to host the b-day party is very generous. Having a more private venue is always welcome--as Corrine so rightly stated. There is still time to plan and choose a venue.

Keep the ideas coming.

The idea of a potluck is harder for us coming from a distance.

Hi all Just readin thru some of the 70th B'day party ideas.  They all sound great.  Robin you can come and cook at either my sister's, my daughters or even maybe my neice's houses.  I'll be glad to check for you.  Corrine  I feel we will let you come as well.  Our 70th Class birthday really isn't that far away.

Also John glad to hear you are feeling somewhat better.  My husband had a valve replacement several years ago also.  He has his good days and bad ones as well.  Of course he has not followed the doctor's orders, like loose weight.  Our prayers will be wih you.

Will be home in June for my daughter Gina's 2nd graduation from college with an RN this time.  Will try and see a few people, Madeline! Of course of few more as well.  For now I must sign off.

Hi Robin,

I sure enjoyed seeing you at the reunion.  I get together with a group of people on a regular basis and it's always a potluck event.  However, few of us actually cook or personally prepare the food we bring.  Grocery store deli items, a bucket of chicken, or a pizza are always well-received.  Fortunately there aren't any show-offs in the group that want to impress everyone with their culinary ability.  It's all about just getting together and enjoying everyone's company.

No wonder we never hit it off as well as we could have (not saying it wasn't great while it lasted), but I am only three months older than you. Maybe you were looking for an older more sophisticated type.

I guess I'm not the man she was looking for, I'm just the one she found.

BTW all, all the health stuff I report here is what I've gleaned from poking around on the internet and subscribing to Medscape so do your own checking too. That being said, I am a pretty good researcher.
