These message forums can be quite entertaining and informative.

How do I know? I spent a fair amount of time lurking on the HHS 1963 Message forum.

You can see what the 1963 forum looks like here:

http://www.cvandhilltop63reunion50.com/class_forum.cfm?currentpage=1

Unfortunately, I was not allowed to post there, but I did have a few things to say. Perhaps they'll get said here if there is sufficient interest.

I'll start out by asking if anyone has a Castle Park Junior High School yearbook from when we were in 7th grade? If my memory serves, it was called "The Knight".

It seems that there should be some among us here, who were bussed to Castle Park and then attended half days at Chula Vista, while Hilltop Junior was being completed.

You can insert photos and videos in your messages if you'd like. Here's CV when there was a train station across Third Ave. and slightly north of La Bella.

Is this Third Avenue?

Hint: Not CV, but close by, also numerical.

Fifth Street, San Diego. Note tracks and California Beer Hall

I have a copy of the 1959 Castle Park JHS yearbook.  It was called The Shield.

Peter Watry and Frank Roseman have recently published two excellent books on Chula vista:  Images of America Chula Vista and Chula Vista Then and Now.  They are available at the CV Historical Museum near 3rd and Parkway and on Amazon.com.

A great video was done by John Axson, a 1962 graduate of HHS.  It is on YouTube below:

Susan Frise mentioned the "Kellogg Rice Krispies", a reference to Lilian J Rice elementary on L Street. Both my older brother and sister attended school there, but I spent all my years at HilltopDrive  Elementary. Terry Maple and I both remember our Sixth Grade teacher (Mr.) Tom Hall. We've never been able to track him down . Anybody cross paths with him in later life?

As far as derogatory references to other elems, I recall that Rosebank (Michele's school) was called "Mudbank", by those incllined to sling insults at Hilltop.

George- I watched with interest your video labled 1962 HHS band in a parade in Hawthorne. I believe that parade must have taken place prior to 1962, as there are four majorettes marching w/the band, and in 1962, there were only three majorettes who marched with the band. We wore white uniforms, the majorettes in the video wore green uniforms. The majorettes in the video were all about the same height. I can attest that the majorettes in 1962 were NOT the same height, as I was the shortest, and Judy Tschogl ((HHS "63) was the tallest. Nancy Orrell (HHS "62) bridged the gap.  You nailed the comment that the HHS band had much better uniforms than did the CVHS band. Actually, the HHS band was much better in every way. I so enjoyed watching the other segments of the Fiesta de la Luna Parade and Maytime Parade. It saddened me when these parades were abandoned. Those of us who participated in those events have only fond memories. I'm sure you will agree that band trips were some of the best memories of high school.

I've been in contact with John Axson over the years and he has some pretty amazing footage. He's taken some down, maybe he can be encouraged to put them back up. He did a nice one on cars of the era.

I have in my possession (but no "Shield")

The Chula Vistan (CVJHS) 1955

The Chula Vistan  1956

The Falcon (HJHS) 1961

I've been meaning to scan them, but never got around to it. Perhaps I can get ahold of your Shield and assembly line all four at once.

Lawrence Kuebler was a major developer and builder in postwar Chula Vista. He was born on the largest ranch on Otay Mesa, part of which became Donovan Prison in the 1980s. He built the KueblerTerrace subdivisions, Vogue Theater, American Legion post, Boney's market at 370 E Street, Civic Center bomb shelter, was a founder of the Otay Water District and the Food Midget chain, served on the school board and civil service commission, died in airplane crash 1975.

Anybody remember the Food Midget?

What's a message forum without some cheerleading to urge folks on. Five of our favorites here. Virginia did not go to HHS. We've been in contact sporadically through the years. She's an attorney in the Bay area.

I played in the band (I think it was Hilltop Jr High School). We played hail to the chief. My mother sat on the VIP platform due to the fact she worked for the brother of the Congressman that arranged the visit (Bob Wilson). It was exciting time.
